Everyone loves their house but if you are putting it up for
sale it will need some prepping. Think of it like you are the buyer. Put your
buyer’s hat on and walk through your home like it’s the first time. Make notes
on what ‘You’ as a ‘Buyer’ would notice and then work on those points.
Every seller wants their home to sell fast and at a good
price hopefully more than what they ask for. Well with careful planning you can
attract potential buyers. You don’t need a lot of money to make your home look
better to potential buyers.
Here are some tips to help you prep up your home before
selling.
·
CLEAN...CLEAN...AND CLEAN…
Clear the clutter and clean like you’ve
never cleaned before. A messy and a dirty home is a huge deal breaker to
buyers. People collect a lot of stuff over the years. If you haven’t used it in
over a year, you probably don’t need it. As for cleaning dust on top of the
fireplace mantle and fan blades, polish your appliances, and wash your windows.
·
DE-PERSONALIZE…
Your goal is to make your home look homey
but not too lived in. Pack up those personal photographs and family heirlooms.
You don’t want to distract the buyers with your personal artifacts. You want
them to imagine their own family artifacts there not yours. Hence it is important
to give them a picture of what their house would look like when they walk into
your house.
·
REPAINT THE WALLS IN NEUTRAL COLORS…
It’s wise to repaint the wall in neutral
colors like white or cream so that the buyers focus more on the space rather
than a dramatic color. Also paint the faded windows trim.
·
MAKE MINOR REPAIRS…
Make the necessary minor repairs like cracked
floors, patch holes in walls, fix leaky faucets, replace burned out light bulbs
and so on.
·
CURB APPEAL…
Don’t spend all your time indoors. More
than one buyer has decided not to even enter a home based on its curb appeal,
so make sure your home’s exterior looks excellent. Trim your shrubs, weed your
flower beds, fix any peeling paint and keep the walkway clear. Just adding a
row of potted plants along the walkway or a cheerful wreath to your front door
can make a big difference.
