Usually people say that winters is the worst time to sell
your home. Especially in a country like ours “Canada” experiencing cold and
snow stormy weather we definitely have to face challenges when selling a home
but do not let the climate discourage you. First impressions are a key to turn
potential buyers into active buyers. By giving notice to a few important areas,
any winter woes can be avoided.
1.
WINTER IS
NOT A STONE IN YOUR PATH: Suppose you have a showing booked for your house
today and it is snowing heavily outside; then make sure you clear the drive way
and shuffle all the snow away to create a clean path for the buyers to come and
see. A drive way full of snow might shoo away your potential buyer.
2.
HOME
TEMPRATURE: Remember, buyers are usually viewing more than one home at a
time, and thus traveling around and running in and out of cars or up and down
elevators in condos. Typically they will be dressed for the great outdoors, so
although having the heat way up is great for lounging on the couch; it can be
oppressive for visiting buyers. Be sure to monitor the temperature of the
entire house and set it appropriately.
3.
ROOMS
SHOULD BE WELL LIGHTED UP: Although due to the shorter days it might be
dark outside in winters but make sure that you light up all the rooms properly
so that they look inviting. Darker rooms tend to seem depressing especially in
cold. Keep it bright.
4.
PETS
SHOULD BE NEAT AND CLEAN: If you own a pet then make sure they are clean
and groomed when buyers are around. No buyer would appreciate the smell of a
wet dog greeting them at the door.
5.
CLEANLINESS
IS THE KEY: It is very easy to get snow marks; wet socks marks etc with so
many showings and so many buyers walking in and out of your house. Make sure
after every visit you clean the floor properly. No snow mark or water should be
on the floors. It’s always better to ask your buyers politely to take off their
shoes when seeing the house.
